Background

Academic

Graduating top of my class from my undergraduate law degree is one of my greatest achievements, as is completing a master’s degree and the Legal Practice Course. I am now a qualified solicitor and am currently practicing as an Associate in Commercial Litigation.

Disabled

I have Muscular Dystrophy, a genetic condition which causes progressive weakening of the musculoskeletal system. This means that I am a full-time electric wheelchair user, and have a ventilated tracheostomy which keeps me alive. I also require two Personal Assistants to be with me 24/7.

Outgoing

Abseiling, rock climbing, canoeing and flying a plane are all things I have done. Acting in a professional play was one of the highlights of my life. I adore travelling; Estonia is the most exotic place I have been and in 2023 I travelled around France to watch the Rugby World Cup.

Projects & Campaigns

While shielding during COVID-19 I joined The Staying Inn. This was an accessible, inclusive online space for disabled and non-disabled people to connect, build a community and have fun. I hosted online events for the Inn such as advocacy workshops, quizzes, games nights and technology lectures.

Due to my disability I have a strong affiliation with Muscular Dystrophy UK. Fundraising, campaigning, and organising events for this charity is extremely important to me. When I deliver public talks I try to discuss the research and action that MDUK facilitates.

I have initiated a number of social media campaigns; for December 2020 I created the trending twitter campaign #AccessibleAdvent, and for International Women’s Day 2021 I co-founded the #NotVulnerableIWD campaign.
